USED BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library hosts a Used Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. The location is the Old Library on Davis Avenue. The donations collected will be used to finance the construction of the new library.
VETERANS DAY PARADE: The annual Veterans Day Parade will take place today at 1 p.m. Those wishing to participate should contact Mike Cardinal at 304-614-6338.
5K RUN: The D&E Nursing Organization (DESNA) will host the annual Michael Scott Webb Scholarship 5K run today on the Highland Park Bike Trail across from the DMV. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., with the race to follow at 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Michael Webb Scholarship. Michael Webb was a former nursing student who died in a car accident in the summer of 2005 before his expected graduation the following May 2006. The scholarship was created in Michaels honor and is awarded to a second-year nursing student who exhibits similar qualities to Michael. The scholarship is made possible through fundraising done by the Davis & Elkins College Nursing Program.
SPAGHETTI DINNER: Boy Scout Troop 66 will host a spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department. The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread and a drink and 400 meals will be available. Funds raised will help send Pathfinders to the National Jamboree in 2023. PURPLE MAJESTIES: The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hat Band will reunite on Monday, November 14 at The Lunch Box on Harrison Ave. at Elkins. The menu will consist of fried country steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad bar, drink and dessert. The meeting will start at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. STEAK DINNER: The annual American Legion Post 122 Steak Dinner will be held Nov. 19 at the American Legion Hall in Pickens. Meals will be served from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The menu includes baked pork steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, applesauce, hot rolls, dessert and drinks.
BASKET GIFTS: The Vietnam Veterans Association’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway will be held Nov. 19 at the Elkins Walmart parking lot beginning at 9 a.m. -6885.
BUCKWHEAT AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Randolph Lodge IOOF will host a sourdough buckwheat breakfast at Lodge Hall on the Beverly Five-lane on Saturday, November 19 from 7 a.m. to noon. The all-you-can-eat menu will include buckwheat pancakes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausages, eggs, milk, coffee or orange juice. Take-out meals will be available.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: The Joy Circle Gifts Galore Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at Otterbein Methodist Church at 1100 South Davis Ave in Elkins. The bazaar will feature handicrafts, baked goods, homemade candies, a cookie walk and a sale of white elephants. Proceeds from the bazaar will support missions that benefit women and children.
CHRISTMAS DINNER HAMPERS: American Legion Post 29 will be accepting requests for Christmas dinner baskets, for Randolph County residents only, on the following dates and times: Monday, December 5 through Friday, December 5. 9, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Proof of your physical residence, ID, and all forms of income you receive is required. Applications must be completed in the office and cannot leave the building. Nominations do not guarantee that you will be chosen to receive a dinner. The baskets will be distributed on December 17. WEDNESDAY NIGHT PICK-UP: Free jam sessions are held indoors Wednesday nights on the Davis & Elkins campus in the lobby of the Boiler House Theater.
