How to Get Archon Fragments in Warframe

0

Warframe is a Free to Play Multiplayer Third-person Shooter Online Game developed and published by Digital Extremes in 2013. Warframe players control members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who have awakened after centuries of suspended animation.

They wake up centuries later, far in the future of Earth to find themselves at war in the planetary system with different factions. To fight, these warriors use Warframes in combat. Each of these Warframes has its own specialty and role in battle. These roles have been further expanded with the addition of the new Veilbreaker update.

WarframeThe Veilbreaker update was released on September 7 with many additions to the game, especially in the endgame. This was a point of contention for many players, with some players leaning towards the game having a distinct lack of endgame content, while other players claimed it was all about the grind.

With the Veilbreaker update, a new endgame mechanic has been added for all players who can engage in it. Now, completing Archon Hunt endgame quests will grant players Archon Shards to upgrade endgame builds.

Archon Shards

Archon Fragments are upgrade resources that can be installed in your Warframes for a huge stat boost. These stat upgrades are additive and give increasing bonuses based on the number of players stacked. A total of up to five Archon Fragments can be installed at a time.

Archon Fragments can be slotted into any Warframe of your choice, giving them either a boost in offensive stats, defensive stats, or utility stats. The Helminth system keeps track of all Archon Fragments installed in the Warframe and you can access them if you choose to make changes.

Naturally, the first question that comes to mind is how to acquire these Archon Fragments? Well, we’ve got you covered.

Acquiring Archon Shards is only possible after completing the homonymous Veilbreaker quest and crafting the following Helminth component. After completing the Veilbreaker quest, you can earn Archon Fragments through the Archon Hunt activity. These are refreshed weekly, so be sure to complete them before the end of the week.

To access Archon Hunts, you need to interact with the Star Chart option. Once you click on it, you can start. These hunts can take a while as they consist of three individual quests that must be completed as stages. Each stage increases the difficulty with stronger enemies and new modifiers added to them, with the final stage ending in a boss battle with the Archon himself.

The Archons themselves rotate weekly, so you won’t be able to get their respective shards for consecutive weeks. So far the Archons are:

  • Boreal: Azure, provides additional armor or increased maximum energy
  • Bitter : Crimson, provides extra ability strength
  • Nira: Amber, provides additional energy orb efficiency or increased parkour speed

Depending on the active Archon that week, completing the Archon Hunt quest will drop Archon Shards associated with that Archon. If you want specific Archon Fragments, be sure to log in during weeks that Archon is currently active. Completing Archon Hunts provides an Archon Shard for each Archon killed.

There is another method to earn Archon Fragments aside from hunting Archons. If you go to Drifter’s Camp, you will meet a vendor named Chipper. You can buy an Archon Shard from him in exchange for stock, which can be acquired through Kahl’s missions.

And finally, there are special Archon Fragments called Tauforgred Archon Fragments. These special shards provide a 50% increase to the buffs already provided by the Archon shard. These Tauforged Archon Fragments cannot be traded, crafted, or purchased, and can only be acquired from Archon Hunts, where they have a 20% chance to drop.

Installing Archon Shards in Warframe

Now that you have Archon Shards, the next thing to know is how to install these Archon Shards. First, you will need an Archon Helminth Shard Segment. This component can be crafted using these materials:

  • Decentralized Namalon (10 needed)
  • Entrati Lanthorn (Two required)
  • Spore Sac (Five required)
  • Plasma Thrax (50 needed)

Each of these materials can be found on Deimos. To craft the Helminth Archon Shard segment from these components, you will need its blueprint. Luckily, you can automatically acquire it after completing the Veilbreaker quest.

Once you have everything, you will need an additional 50,000 credits to craft the component. It will take a total of 24 hours to craft, so it’s best to do other activities while you wait. Once crafted, open the Helminth menu and interact with the Archon Shard tab. Here there will be an option available to install the fragment of your choice. Each shard will have one of five options, with a color indicating the shard itself. Simply select one of the options, the appropriate socket and the fragment to install it on your Warframe.

Once the Archon Shard is inserted, its buffs will apply to your Warframe. Depending on the color of the shard, that particular stat will be enhanced. Following this, the installed Archon Shard will provide buffs to that stat and affect all builds of that particular Warframe.

These shards really shine in the endgame, especially when you need those bonus stats to push your Warframe beyond its limits. You can use the shards to give them stats that they otherwise couldn’t get through conventional means.

You can also go the completely opposite route and choose to experiment using Archon Shards. With the flexibility this system provides, you can choose to convert your Warframe into something it couldn’t otherwise become.

Also, keep in mind that you can only have five Archon Fragments installed on a Warframe at any given time. No more can be added once you reach the install cap, but you can replace them with better shards later if needed (like Tauforged Archon shards).

But what if you’re unhappy with your build? The game also gives you the option to uninstall these Archon Fragments.

Uninstall Archon Shards in Warframe

If you decide to switch builds and realize that the Archon Fragments you are currently using do not match the build you are aiming for, the game allows you to uninstall them from your Warframe. Doing this is also much easier.

Go to the Archon Shard tab, then select any Archon Shard installed on your Warframe. Here you should have the option to uninstall the fragment of your choice. Keep in mind that this will use 50% of your Helminth’s Bile resources.

Once you’ve uninstalled the Archon Shard, you’re free to keep it in your inventory. These Archon Fragments can then be used in a future build or just as an alternative should you ever find a better use for them in the future. Just make sure you have enough bile to do it.

And that’s all you need to know about Archon Fragments and how to use them in Warframe. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any changes that may occur in the game.
