Saturday October 1, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Blessing of Animals of All Ages. Bring your creatures, big and small, on a leash or in a cage to be blessed! Children can bring stuffed animals! Take advantage of the children’s activities offered by the Mechanicsburg Public Library. Located in the front lawns of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior and the Mechanicsburg Public Library.

Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Iron-on embroidery hoop Autumn crafts 18 years and over. Design your own beautiful fall decoration! Complete with warm fall colors and a ‘Fall Leaves and Pumpkin Please’ message, this craft kit makes for an engaging indoor DIY activity that’s perfect for when the weather starts to get chilly. Keep it for yourself or give it to a friend!

Wednesdays October 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: story time for 2 to 5 year olds. These programs aim to support early group learning. Join us for a mix of stories and activities that provide enjoyable opportunities for children to practice skills that prepare them for reading. Light snacks will be served. Donations of nutritional snacks are appreciated.

Wednesday October 5, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Quilt Guild All Ages. Are you interested in duvets? A little padded? Quilting for years. Whatever your level, join our group and share the craft with others.

Marissa Abraham will lead the class! Classes are every Thursday at 3:30 p.m.! Please bring your own mats! Yoga will be outside!

Fridays October 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Walking club for traveling readers aged 18 and over. Need help starting a consistent fitness routine? Join the Traveling Readers Walking Club! The club meets every Friday at 10 a.m. We’ll walk for 30 minutes around Mechanicsburg and discuss your latest or favorite books!

Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Impromptu session by William C. Hunter (“Chomp”) All ages. The Mechanicsburg Public Library will feature William C. Hunter (better known as “Chomp”), a longtime resident of Mechanicsburg, in an impromptu session as he shares stories about his life, work and his unique journeys. The Woman’s Tourist Club will provide refreshments.

Monday, October 10, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Explorers Club 6 years old (kindergarten) – 5th year. In October, we’ll be exploring the history of the Salem Witch Trials!

Tuesday October 11, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Fantastic World 13-18 years old. Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering! Do you like to explore fantasy worlds? Stop by the library on October 11 to create and discover the two greatest fantasy games!

Thursday October 13, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Lego Club 5 to 12 years old. Imagine. Build it. Legos and K’nex will be provided. Donations of new Legos or money to purchase additional Legos are welcome.

We will have tables set up in the meeting room for customers to browse! You can take as many books as you want, there is no limit! Donations accepted, but not required!

Digitization of Mechanicsburg High School Yearbooks The Mechanicsburg Public Library is pleased to announce that select Mechanicsburg High School yearbooks have been digitized and are now available everywhere on a website, at the library on DVDs and USB drives, and for viewing at DVDs and USB sticks. Visit https://mechanicsburglibrary.wixsite.com/yearbooks to view and search selected yearbooks from 1954-1987. Parts of 1990-2021 are coming soon!

Hopla digital! Hoopla Digital is a service that includes instant access to over 500,000 e-books, audiobooks, comics, streaming videos (movies and TV shows), and streaming music. Mechanicsburg customers can borrow 10 items per month. Download the Hoopla Digital app or visit the Hoopla website to create an account with your library card! If you don’t have a library card, you can get a digital card online. Hoopla is also compatible with Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast and Roku. Please call or drop by the library if you have any questions about Hoopla.

Hot spots! The Mechanicsburg Public Library is pleased to announce its Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Loaner Program which will help make information more accessible to members of the community. The Mobile Hotspot lending collection offers patrons greater Internet access away from the library. Hotspots can be viewed for two weeks (14 days) by customers aged 18 and over. To request an access point, please call or drop by the library.

Memory Kits The Mechanicsburg Public Library recently purchased thirteen memory kits with a generous grant from the Champaign County Memorial Foundation. These kits can be tested and used for reminiscence therapy by people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The theme kits include a DVD and activity sheets with photos. Kit themes include the four seasons, dogs and cats, farm, the great outdoors, patriotic, handyman and housewife, and the 1950s and 1960s. Northstar Digital Literacy Training Northstar Digital Literacy Training is now available at the Mechanicsburg Public Library! Training topics include essential computer skills, essential software skills, and using technology in daily life.
